The tournament was established on August 20, 1920 after a meeting of teams of Akron Pros, Canton Bulldogs, Cleveland Indians, and Dayton Triangles (now all dissolved) in Ohio. After much effort, in September of the same year, the tournament began to compete with 14 teams. Only two teams, Arizonia and Chicago, are still playing. In 1933 the tournament was divided into two small prizes, but this style was dissolved in 1947. Three years later the tournament received a number of teams from AAFC (the tournament was canceled). In 1960, the competition was an AFC competitor, but the two tournaments held a final between the two champions in 1966 and AFC merged into the NFL. The tournament is divided into two conferences: AFC (teams from previous AFL) and NFC (teams from previous NFL). In 2002 with the participation of the Houston team, the number of teams was 32, the most in the American professional league. The special thing is that the team has a team in the city of 100,000 people, Green Bay, making this city the smallest city to have a team in professional sports tournaments in North America.
