This is the dragon mentioned in the Koijiki, Japan’s oldest book and also one of the few dragons in Eastern legends that represent evil. As described, Yamata No Orochi (also known as the Eight Great Sails) is a large dragon with 8 or more heads. It has fierce red eyes and an always hungry stomach. The body of the monster stretches through thousands of valleys, hills, and on its back is also covered with pine and cypress trees.
In the Koijiki Yamata No Orochi story, the warrior Susanoo kills the dragon by pouring it with sake and cutting off all heads while the monster is asleep. Thanks to that, he saved Princess Kushi-inada-hime, who was the last of the eight about to be sacrificed to the Eight Great Sects.
